Bangkok will rock your socks

Hi everyone... here’s a post which is actually about my trip and not just me talking about feelings! Finally. I only spent 3 nights in Bangkok, so didn’t go crazy... but you can do a lot in 3 days! I won’t write about every single thing I did because that would just take ages and you would probably get bored (writing that much would also be a lot of effort...) but here are some highlights!

Day 1

I actually ended up doing the most on the very first day I arrived with hardly any sleep after my red eye flight... which was exhausting but also really fine...adrenaline and coffee kept me going.

After a quick nap, I met a girl in my hostel who had also just arrived so we decided to go exploring. Two things I can say about Thailand (well, Bangkok) is that the people are insanely kind and welcoming, and that the rules of the road are very confusing. This adorable Thai man helped us cross a road where the light was broken and started speaking to us. He then wrote down a number of places we had to visit.

Turns out the 4th of September is Royal Thai Navy Submarine Memorial Day (who knew), so everything we did was discounted (including the Tuk Tuk ride). We paid 30 Bhat each (80p) for a driver to take us around for the whole afternoon. One good thing to know is that government Tuk Tuk’s are yellow and means you’ll never get scammed. The driver even waited for us at each place we stopped!

Some beautiful (not so touristy) temples to check out:

1. Wat Soonthorn Thammathan - stunning Buddhist temple with Buddhist cemetery to store ashes. There’s also a monk initiation temple.

2. Wat Indharaviharn - A huge golden Buddha!

We then went to the Chao Phraya river and did a discounted private boat tour for an hour which ended at Wat Arun, a magnificent temple on the riverside.

Day 2

Thai Massage

I’ve never really been into massages but thought I’d treat myself and go for an authentic Thai Massage. I got a 30 minute full body massage and it was astounding. I was originally going to go for a full hour but changed my mind last minute. Thank god, 30 minutes was plenty. I don’t think I could have endured the pain for a full hour. Good pain though, all good pain. I think my back cracked about 500 times and I came out feeling like I had a new body. Just what I needed after a long flight the day before!

Day 3

Khaosan Road

A very touristy part of Bangkok, but a must nonetheless... Khaosan Road has it all. It’s definitely the place to be at night if you like to party! Extremely loud music plays from every bar on either side of the street and you can buy cheap buckets of alcohol. Yep, like buckets you’d build a sandcastle with on the beach... filled with alcohol. You can also eat tarantulas, scorpions, crickets and god knows what else. Tasty tasty treats all round. You’ll also most likely wake up with a huge headache and a bit of an upset stomach, but a hangover smoothie from a little shop called Baan Khaosan will sort you out.

More to come soon!

Big love,

Belle x
